Permanent Representative of Canada to the United Nations
Bob Rae is the President of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) for the 2024–2025 term and Canada’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations. A seasoned diplomat, lawyer, and former Premier of Ontario, Rae has dedicated his career to advancing human rights, Indigenous reconciliation, conflict resolution, and global cooperation. He has played a key role in addressing international crises, including the Rohingya humanitarian emergency, sustainable development, and peacebuilding.
A Rhodes Scholar and accomplished author, Rae has served as interim leader of the Liberal Party of Canada and has decades of political leadership and academic experience. His presidency at ECOSOC focuses on leveraging artificial intelligence for sustainable development, tackling migration challenges, and promoting innovative financing for development.
